Most people actively look for the best deals on consumer goods. That’s why there are entire warehouses full of clearance items that you can go to in order to find the best deals.

We’ve all seen the old clips of Black Friday shoppers fighting over the last item that’s 70% off.

But there’s been a recent trend of people who aren’t looking for the best deals, but rather the best quality.

Enter r/BuyItForLife, a subreddit dedicated to finding the best of the best—products that will last generations. And it’s one of the fastest growing subreddits, adding around 2,000 subscribers per day.

Durable good sales have continued to rise, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon:

  • The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis shows a significant increase in personal consumption expenditures on durable goods over the years, particularly during and after COVID

  • A survey commissioned by Slickdeals found that three in five Americans are more inclined to spend money on quality items rather than cheaper alternatives.

  • 84% of consumers consider sustainability an important factor in their purchase decisions, which often correlates with a preference for durable, long-lasting products

This might seem like a trend that doesn’t have much opportunity aside from creating a new physical product line.

But there’s virtually endless opportunity in every vertical here, especially because you’re marketing it to an audience that wants quality and can dish out the funds for it.
